John Lewis Elementary School
John Lewis Elementary School is the first DC school to achieve net zero energy, LEED Platinum, and WELL certifications as the new standard for 21st-century learning environments in the area. Several of the design elements of the brutalist, open plan original building were maintained to create flexible learning environments that are complemented by modern design elements. DES collaborated with the design team, DCPS, and the contractor to ensure the furniture and millwork complemented the architectural design as well as followed the DCPS Educational Specifications.
