Position Summary:

The Assistant Controller position is responsible for assisting in the management of the ongoing financial reporting operations of the Company. This includes assisting the Controller in the preparation and review of monthly financial reports and other management reports, and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles. The Assistant Controller also serves as a liaison between the owner and external accounting firm and other professional service providers.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Internal Management Summary, Analysis, or Monthly Reporting preparation required by owner and management.
  • Preparation of complex and industry specific key performance indicators, critical success factors, and other management analysis required.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting projects
  • Review of work, work products and reporting packages prepared by members of the accounting department.
  • Management of ongoing transactional accounting to insure items are processed and necessary information is recorded and updated on a timely basis.
  • Staff and technology resource planning/management
  • Facilitate integration of specified job-related financial data with Procore project management system.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Possess an understanding of accounting principles and concepts
  • Working knowledge of accounting systems, construction industry specialization required
  • Knowledge of certified payroll required
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate integrity
  • General knowledge and understanding of full-cycle accounting processes and payroll and related taxes
  • Essential and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, preferred
  • 5-7 years of experience in private/public accounting working with clients in the $1-$10 million in revenues per year range. Some experience working with clients with annual revenues up to $50 million or more preferred.
  • Relevant professional certification(s) preferred
  • Ability to build productive cross-functional, collaborative working relationships and team player
  • Experience working in a paperless environment strongly preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Understanding of basic business skills and standard office technology
Certified Payroll Requirements:
  • Maintain electronic certified payroll compliance system and assist with project site audits, subcontractor understanding, and compliance for prevailing wages
  • Apply basic understanding of federal, state, and local prevailing wage laws (Davis-Bacon and Related Act (DBRA), Service Contract Act, Walsh Healy Act, and other relevant regulations) and knowledgeable of prevailing wage requirements to support specific projects
  • Monitor contractor and subcontractor reporting requirements and procedures to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws governing prevailing wage
  • Review all compliance requirements with and obtain reporting information from subcontractors
  • Audit process and record and perform pay restitution as applicable
  • Administer electronic certified payroll compliance system and other owner/lender required website
  • Verify accuracy of prevailing wage records, ensuring necessary information, daily work records, and fringe benefits are included
  • Ensure timely submission of certified payroll of contractor and subcontractors, conduct audit of certified payroll reports for compliance; notify and follow up for revised certified payroll as needed
  • Abide by record retention guidelines established by state and/or federal government
  • Archive payroll records in appropriate manner
  • Maintain accurate files of certified payroll reports, affidavits, and related documents and always make available for review
Working Conditions:

Regular office hours are generally 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday. Overtime and weekends are required periodically in order to meet the responsibilities of this role. The work location of this position is at our corporate office.
